Transport company Boutin was targeted by ransomware. The company shut down all of its IT systems, but has managed to continue operating.
The security breach was announced on a ransomware group’s site. We contacted the company by phone on April 28, and its president, Mr. Bernard Boutin, confirmed that they had indeed been targeted by a cyberattack. He asked us to send him our questions in writing.
In an email, the entrepreneur explained that a ransom note was discovered and that they then called on an IT security specialist.
The customer and employee portals, accessible from their website, are not responding. To avoid taking any unnecessary risks, “we shut down access to all of our systems and workstations.” Staff must rebuild a number of servers and “restart certain applications from scratch. Operations work is being done partly manually.”
Mr. Boutin says their operations are continuing. “With our team, we were able to make sure that service was not too disrupted.”
The situation is currently under investigation. The company cannot say with certainty whether personal data of customers or employees was stolen. But “as a precaution, the people concerned have started to be informed.”
Boutin is a company founded in 1945 and headquartered in Plessisville, in the Centre-du-Québec region. According to its website, it has more than 390 employees and a fleet of over 630 units.
